Clover Search Group is an owner-led direct hire recruiting firm in Lodi, California, and Stockton is the market we work most. We place professionals and leaders for Stockton employers across operations and industrial, construction, finance, technology, and commercial roles. Brooklyn and Aidan Kearney own the firm and run the searches themselves — no branch office, no account manager, and no fifteen-hundred-mile gap between the recruiter and the plant floor.

If you searched for a Stockton headhunter, a staffing agency or an executive recruiter to get here, the honest label for what we actually do is direct hire recruiting: permanent placements, contingent or retained, with a 90-day guarantee behind each one.

Stockton is about sixteen miles down Highway 99 from us. We come to your site before the search starts, and in Stockton that is a twenty-minute drive.

One fact explains most of it. Stockton sits at the junction of Interstate 5 and Highway 99 — both of the Valley’s principal north–south routes run through the city.

Stockton is California’s eleventh-largest city — around 320,000 people, and the seat of San Joaquin County.

Logistics and distribution. Federal labor statistics put transportation and material moving at 21 percent of all employment in the Stockton–Lodi metro — more than double the national share. Amazon runs multiple fulfillment centers here and is the largest private employer in San Joaquin County, with air cargo operations at Stockton Metropolitan Airport on top of it. Airpark 599 is a 272-acre master-planned industrial park beside Stockton Metropolitan Airport — about three million square feet of Class A space in buildings from roughly 40,000 square feet to 1.2 million; the Arch Road and Tillie Lewis corridors carry millions more.

The port. The Port of Stockton, opened in 1933 as California’s first inland seaport, sits seventy-five miles inland from San Francisco at the head of a deepwater ship channel — trading with more than fifty countries, and supporting roughly ten thousand jobs. Bulk handling, agri-export, marine terminals, and the manufacturers and 3PLs that cluster around a working port.

Healthcare and education. St. Joseph’s Medical Center (Dignity Health / CommonSpirit) is the county’s largest hospital and building a new patient tower; Dameron Hospital, now run by American Advanced Management, and Kaiser Permanente round out acute care. University of the Pacific — founded in 1851, California’s oldest chartered university — the Stanislaus State Stockton Campus and Stockton Unified School District sit alongside San Joaquin Delta College. Between them, Delta enrolls about 21,000 students and Pacific close to 7,000 — a local pipeline of nurses, pharmacists, engineers and business graduates that Stockton employers hire from directly.

Utilities, finance, and the public sector. San Joaquin County government employs more than nine thousand people, Stockton Unified and the city’s own departments several thousand more, and PG&E runs a regional operations office here. Stockton is also one of the few cities in the region with locally headquartered banking — Bank of Stockton has run on its original 1867 charter from downtown ever since, which matters when you’re hiring a controller who would rather not report to another time zone.

We don’t recruit for all of that; clinical and classroom seats are not our work. But it’s the market your offer competes in, and it’s why a Stockton controller search and a Stockton plant manager search are two different conversations.

Weighted the way Stockton is weighted — operations and industrial and construction and infrastructure first, with finance and administration behind them.

Direct hire, permanent, at the leadership and professional layer. For what these seats pay, the Central Valley salary guide has the ranges.

Stockton is sixteen miles from our door. Highway 99 south, twenty minutes, no drama. Clients here get the site visit, the follow-up and the reference calls from the same two people, and if something goes sideways after the start date we can be there the same morning. That is not a claim a national firm running Stockton out of a regional hub can make.

The geography runs the other way too, and it’s the most useful thing to understand about hiring here. San Joaquin County has one of the highest concentrations of super-commuters in the United States — roughly one in ten traveling ninety minutes or more each way — because Bay Area salaries and Valley housing costs pull people in opposite directions. At the western edge of the county, in Tracy and Lathrop and Mountain House, close to a third of workers commute an hour or more, most of them on I-580/205 over the Altamont twice a day. A Stockton employer who can offer them a fifteen-minute drive is holding the strongest card in this market, and most don’t know how to play it.

Stockton also sits on the ACE line to San Jose and the Amtrak Gold Runner route. When we tell a candidate in Elk Grove or Manteca what the commute actually looks like, we’re describing a drive we’ve made.

Four stops between the first call and a signed offer — no black box, no surprises. Our recruiters run the same road every time; the long version, with the road art, is on the employers page.

Intake

We take on a handful of searches at a time, and we come to you before we start. In Stockton, usually the same week. Recruiting starts when the engagement letter is signed. Not before.

Sourcing

Owner-led outreach across the corridors, not job-board scraping. Phone first — inboxes are noise, and a call gets a real conversation. The people worth hiring usually aren’t looking. They still pick up.

The shortlist

A handful of vetted, genuinely interested candidates — days, not weeks. A phone screen, then a video or in-person interview. Reference checks run by Aidan personally.

The placement

We stay in it through the offer, the move and the first 90 days. Every hire is guaranteed for 90 days, and we check in with both sides after the start date to make sure it is actually working.

What does a direct hire search cost in Stockton?

Most searches here run contingent, which means one fee and you owe it only when the person starts — with a 90-day replacement guarantee behind the hire. No retainer, no upfront commitment, no tiered price sheet. Retained engagements are structured differently, with part of the fee paid up front. We give you the number on the first call.

Do you recruit for logistics and distribution operations?

Yes — it’s the largest share of what we place in Stockton. Distribution center and warehouse operations management, transportation and supply chain leadership, safety and EHS, maintenance and engineering, plus the finance and HR seats behind them. Salaried leadership and professional roles, permanent and direct hire.

What kind of hire do you place in Stockton?

Direct hire at the professional and leadership layer — a permanent employee on your payroll, contingent or retained, guaranteed for 90 days. If the seat you are describing sits somewhere else, tell us on the first call and you will get a straight answer rather than a surprise in week three.

How far is Lodi from Stockton?

About sixteen miles — twenty minutes south on Highway 99, or Highway 12 across to 99 if the traffic argues. Close enough that a site visit is a morning, not a trip, and close enough that we’re in Stockton most weeks anyway.

Can you help with candidates commuting over the Altamont?

That is a good part of the job here. San Joaquin has one of the highest super-commuter rates in the country, and a lot of experienced people in the county are spending three hours a day on I-580/205 to reach a Bay Area employer. They’re not on job boards, and they don’t answer email. They answer the phone, which is how we work.

Compensation questions route to the numbers: the 2026 Central Valley Salary Guide carries the ranges by function and seniority, and the employers page has the full fee and engagement picture.
