Clover Search Group is an owner-led direct hire recruiting firm in Lodi, California, and Fresno is the far southern end of the corridor we work. We place professionals and leaders for Fresno employers across agriculture and food processing, distribution and logistics, healthcare, construction, and the finance and commercial roles behind them. Brooklyn and Aidan Kearney own the firm and run the searches themselves.

Whether you searched for a Fresno executive search firm, an employment agency or a headhunter, what you have found is a direct hire recruiting firm — we fill permanent roles that sit on your payroll.

Fresno sits roughly 140 miles south of us, about two and a quarter hours straight down Highway 99. That is the longest drive in our footprint, and we would rather say so up front than have you work it out later. We still make it before a search starts, because a Fresno processing plant is not something you can understand off a satellite photo and a phone screen.

The largest economy we cover, and the least like the others. Fresno is California’s fifth-largest city, around 560,000 people, and the commercial center of the San Joaquin Valley.

Agriculture, at a scale nothing else in the country matches. Fresno County’s 2024 crop and livestock report put gross agricultural production at just over $9.0 billion — a record, and the first time any county in the United States has crossed nine billion. It put Fresno County back at number one nationally, ahead of Tulare and Kern. Almonds, grapes and pistachios each cleared the better part of a billion dollars on their own, more than 300 commodities are grown here, and 96 of them ship to 91 countries. Every one of those numbers turns into a payroll somewhere: growers, processors, packers, coolers, equipment dealers, and the quality and food-safety people who keep all of it saleable.

Healthcare, schools, and the public payroll. The City of Fresno publishes a ranked list of its largest employers in the statistical section of its annual financial report, and the top of it is Fresno Unified School District and Community Medical Centers, whose Community Regional Medical Center anchors downtown. The County of Fresno, Clovis Unified School District, the City of Fresno and California State University, Fresno all sit in that top ten, alongside Saint Agnes Medical Center. Just north in Madera, Valley Children’s Healthcare draws about three quarters of its workforce out of Fresno County.

Distribution, and the highway that carries it. The city names its own anchors: the Gap Pacific Distribution Center, the Ulta Beauty Fulfillment Center, and Amazon, which sits fifth on that employer list. Highway 99 through Fresno carries about 148,000 vehicles a day at its busiest point, and Highway 41 through the middle of the city carries about 155,000 — the heaviest traffic on any road in the county. Interstate 5 runs parallel about an hour west — Fresno is the largest city in the country without an Interstate of its own, and that road network is the whole reason a distribution operation can serve Los Angeles and the Bay Area out of one building here. Fresno Yosemite International Airport moved a record 2.75 million passengers in 2025 and finished a terminal expansion that December.

The schools that feed all of it. California State University, Fresno has run since 1911 and enrolls close to 25,000 students. Its Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology puts nearly 2,000 of them through a 1,000-acre working university farm, and in 1997 the campus became the first in the United States with a winery licensed to produce, bottle and sell its own wine commercially. Fresno City College opened in 1910 as California’s first community college and is the largest of the four in the State Center Community College District, itself a top-ten employer.

Two things worth knowing if you are hiring here right now. California’s high-speed rail work is genuinely in the ground — 119 miles of active construction across the Central Valley, and the Ventura Boulevard underpass in downtown Fresno opened to traffic in March 2026 — though the downtown Fresno station itself is still planned rather than built, with main construction expected in 2027 or 2028. And the market moves in both directions: S&S Activewear closed its Fresno hard-goods distribution operation in 2025, putting 117 experienced warehouse and operations people into circulation.

Weighted the way Fresno is weighted — operations, ag and industrial first, then construction and infrastructure and finance and administration.

Project management, superintendent and estimating seats here are commercial, industrial and agricultural construction — coolers, packing sheds and process buildings as often as offices.

Direct hire, permanent, at the leadership and professional layer — the people who run the plant and the season, not the people on the line. What these seats pay in Fresno is not what they pay in Sacramento; the Central Valley salary guide carries the ranges by function and seniority, Fresno included.

The honest version first: Fresno is the one market in our footprint we are not around the corner from. Roughly 140 miles, about two and a quarter hours, all of it on Highway 99. Stockton is twenty minutes from our door and Modesto is forty miles. Fresno is a day.

We take the search anyway, and we still drive it. A food safety director for a processor in southeast Fresno and a plant manager for a packinghouse outside Kerman are not the same hire, and the difference is not written in the job description. It is in what the building smells like at six in the morning, which shift the good people are on, and whether the last person in the seat left for a reason anybody will say out loud. You get that by going. So we go.

What a Valley firm actually buys a Fresno employer is not proximity. It is the corridor. People who run plants in Fresno often trained in Modesto or Stockton; people who left Fresno for the coast still have family in Selma and Sanger, and a lot of them would come back for the right seat. Those conversations are already running up and down 99, in both directions, and we did not need an office in Fresno to start them.

The local pipeline is real too. Fresno State enrolls about 25,000 students and Fresno City College serves more than 30,000 a year, so the pipeline of trained people coming into this economy is deep and it is local, and the Jordan College farm graduates people who already know what a harvest actually costs to run. Fresno does not have a talent problem. It has a finding problem, and finding is the part we do.

Four stops between the first call and a signed offer — no black box, no surprises. Our recruiters run the same road every time; the long version, with the road art, is on the employers page.

Intake

We take on a handful of searches at a time, and we come to you before we start — two hours down 99 included. The plant floor, the cooler, the yard, if you’ll have us there. Recruiting starts when the engagement letter is signed. Not before.

Sourcing

Owner-led outreach across the corridors, not job-board scraping. Phone first — inboxes are noise, and a call gets a real conversation. The people worth hiring usually aren’t looking. They still pick up.

The shortlist

A handful of vetted, genuinely interested candidates — days, not weeks. A phone screen, then a video or in-person interview. Reference checks run by Aidan personally.

The placement

We stay in it through the offer, the move and the first 90 days. Every hire is guaranteed for 90 days, and we check in with both sides after the start date to make sure it is actually working.

What does a direct hire search cost in Fresno?

Most searches run contingent: a single fee that comes due only when your hire starts, carrying a 90-day replacement guarantee. No retainer, no upfront commitment, no tiered price sheet. Retained engagements are built differently, with part of the fee paid up front. Ask on the first call and you will get the number straight away.

How far is Lodi from Fresno, and does the distance change anything?

Roughly 140 miles — about two and a quarter hours straight down Highway 99. It is comfortably the longest drive in our footprint and we are not going to pretend otherwise. It does not change how the search runs: we still come to your site before we take it, and we still call candidates in the evening.

Do you recruit for agriculture and food processing in Fresno?

Yes, and it is the largest single share of what we place here. Plant and production management, quality assurance and food safety, grower relations and ag operations, maintenance and reliability, supply chain and procurement, and the finance, HR and safety leadership around them. Salaried, permanent, direct hire.

Where does a Fresno search sit in the org chart?

At the professional and leadership layer, as a direct hire: a permanent salaried employee on your payroll, contingent or retained, carrying a 90-day replacement guarantee. If your opening sits somewhere other than that, bring it to the first call and we will give you a straight read on fit.

Do you work in Clovis, Madera, Visalia and the towns around Fresno?

Yes. Fresno is the anchor, but the economy does not stop at the city line. Clovis, Sanger, Selma, Kerman, Madera and Visalia sit in the same labor market, and a candidate weighing a Fresno job is usually weighing those too. Ask about a role anywhere in that ring and we will tell you honestly whether we fit it.

Compensation questions route to the numbers: the 2026 Central Valley Salary Guide carries the ranges by function and seniority, with Fresno as one of its five areas, and the employers page has the full fee and engagement picture.

Same recruiters, same corridor, one long drive away.

Also hiring in Modesto and Stockton — about an hour and a half and about two hours back up the same highway, and a lot of Fresno careers have already passed through both.
